Which Way is Up?

Here is my little tomato plant, growing from its Topsy Turvey Tomato Planter. The good news is that, it's growing!

But, you will notice that my little plant is a bit confused...It's started growing upwards. How does it know to do that--grow up. I suppose it can feel the light or warmth of the sun. Eventually it will start growing downwards. I know that because the pictures on the boxes show the plant growing down. But, I'm nervous, because of my past history with growing plants.
If you're wondering, those pretty orange blossoms in the background are our aloe vera plants, which grow without any attention. You're welcome to take some home with you when you come to visit. Hint, hint.

5-5-5 TAG

Heather tagged me, so I'll play along.

Where were you five years ago?

1. Teaching first grade at Vista Grande Elementary school--a school I named. That's right! I submitted this name to the school district for the new school and it was chosen.
2. Working 14+ hour days (and nights) struggling to keep up with the increasing demands of the teaching profession--and not sleeping much because of all the stress.
3. Enjoying serving as a counselor to the young women in church. Fun!
4. Doing a lot of piano accompanying and performing.
5. Visiting our children and all the Grands who live in Idaho and Utah.

Where would you like to be five years from now?

1. Healthy!!! Energized!!! Living a productive life serving others!!
2. Spending more time with my children and their families.
3. Have a website that features my music for people to download and enjoy.
4. Be able to speak and read German.
5. Travel to Germany with my children who speak German to visit our German relatives and do genealogical research there.

What was on your To-Do list today?

1. Drink my Ironman green drink, cider vinegar drink and diatomaceous earth drink.
2. Read about the Resurrection and review my Conference notes.
3. Spend time with Maddie while Josh and Renee pull weeds in my backyard. Great trade-off, don't you think!
4. Call Julie to wish her a happy 6th birthday.
5. Take the sister missionaries out to Don Jose's for dinner. This is Sister Harrison's last week before going home and I will miss her.

What Five snacks do you enjoy?

1. Dark chocolate.
2. Dark Chocolate.
3. Dark chocolate.
4. Almonds...with dark chocolate.
5. Excuse me, while I get some dark chocolate. Oh yeah, I do like sliced apples with peanut butter. (An apple slicer/corer makes this snack more fun.) AND, I love to eat sliced avocados-plain. And celery and carrots.

What would you do if you were a billionaire?

1. Establish a research foundation for various diseases, such as ALS, pancreatic cancer, brain tumors and Parkinson's.
2. Donate to Child Help and other organizations that help abused and neglected children.
3. Set up college trust funds for my grandchildren.

4. Buy property with mineral springs and well water.

5. Hire live-in domestic help so that my home could be ready at any given moment to entertain friends!

I'm tagging the only two other people who read my blog.

1. Renee at My Wonderful Life

2. Whitney at Adventures in Snylowland.

Hide the Remote

Certain members of my family think I watch too much t.v. I won't try to defend myself, except to say that this is a fairly recent behavior. Those I live with have all tried to persuade me to engage in more meaningful pursuits, but I think that sixteenth month-old Maddison said it best. This morning she grabbed the remote when I wasn't looking. When I asked her for it, she scurried away as fast as her little legs would carry her and put the remote in one of my saucepans and put the lid on it, laughing with glee. It was kind of embarrassing, really.

Shout For Joy!

SURPRISE! In celebration of my birthday, I'm going to try this again. I enjoy all of your blogs so much! I hope to bring something of interest to the table.

Spring has definitely sprung here in SOCAL. Our pretty lavender ice plant is in full bloom and daffodils are popping up, without any encouragement. Our noses are running and our eyes are itching as we inhale spring. It seems, as stated in scripture, that the whole earth is shouting for joy at this time of year. Anticipating our General Conference, I read in my notes from April 2008 Conference, "The plants, flowers and animals endure all the winter elements, and then rejoice in bloom, fecundity, song and flight in the spring." Wow! What a beautiful example to us to just hang on through our winters and rejoice in our springs. What a beautiful witness also of our Savior's resurrection!

My kids will all tell you that I can't grow anything. I water too much, or not enough. I have managed to keep two low maintenance houseplants alive for quite sometime. Other than that, I've acquired a collection of pots that used to belong to pretty flowers that died on my watch.

So, not one to give up easily, when I saw the Topsy Turvey Tomato Planter advertised, hope sprung anew. I thought,if I can't grow plants right side up, maybe I can grow them upside down. I'll keep you posted.

HAPPY EASTER!!

Thursday, July 23, 2009

Just want my kids and grandkids to know how much I enjoyed visiting with them! There will be posts about the good times we had together as soon as Craig downloads our pictures. (He has been swamped at work.) It's a treat to have my children cook for me. And it ALL tastes really good!! The swedish pancake that Matt prepared for us one morning was especially yummy!

I was sort of a wet noodle in the Utah heatwave. Sarah told me she still loved me even though I had to take so many naps now. Then she came and cuddled with me on the bed. I just had to cool off downstairs in the basement. It must be atleast ten degrees cooler downstairs.

Let's start planning a family reunion for next spring or summer. Any suggestions?

Thankful Tuesday

I'm thankful for low maintenance floors. I still remember life before no wax floors-The wax had to be stripped periodically. Not long after we got our first home, no was floors arrived. Liberation! Now we have tile, vinyl and laminate. They're all great!

How Silly of Me!

Oops, goofed again. Guess you figured that out already. That post was meant for Whitney's blog.
